Understanding Bird Flu & The Impacts on Our Farm

Writer: Garry HowellGarry Howell

As a small family farm, we prioritize the health and well-being of our animals and the quality of our products. Given the ongoing concerns about avian influenza (bird flu), we want to share how it’s affecting our farm, what it means for the cost of our eggs, and whether you need to worry about getting sick from consuming our products.

🐦 How Bird Flu is Affecting Our Farm

Bird flu is a highly contagious virus that primarily affects birds, particularly poultry. While we have stringent biosecurity measures in place, the virus poses a risk to our flock, leading to increased monitoring and preventive measures. To keep our birds safe, we have enhanced sanitation, restricted farm visits, and implemented protective protocols. These additional efforts require time and resources and impact our daily farm operations.

🥚 Why Egg Prices Are Rising

The spread of bird flu has led to a nationwide decrease in poultry populations, driving up the cost of eggs across the market. Although we are doing our best to keep prices stable, the increased cost of feed, veterinary care, and disease prevention measures have made it necessary to adjust our pricing. We are committed to transparency and sustainability, ensuring our customers receive high-quality eggs while supporting ethical farming practices.

🦠 Can You Get Sick from Bird Flu?

One of the most common concerns is whether humans can get sick from consuming eggs or poultry from infected birds. According to health experts, adequately cooked eggs and poultry do not pose a risk to human health. We follow strict guidelines to ensure that only healthy birds contribute to our egg production, and we continuously monitor for any signs of illness. Additionally, the USDA and FDA maintain rigorous safety regulations to protect consumers.

We appreciate your continued support and understanding as we navigate these challenges. Our priority remains our animals' health and our customers' trust. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out—we’re always happy to share more about how we care for our flock and produce the best farm-fresh eggs possible!
